  • Overview

    This position is located in the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, Directorate of Domestic Operations, Office of Investigations and Counterintelligence, Computer Investigations and Forensics Division (CIF).  CIF provides specialized support to investigative offices within the Bureau of Diplomatic Security and the Department of State, Office of the Inspector General.


    • Assist in forensic examinations of mobile device media from a variety of sources with the goal of developing forensically sound evidence
    • Apply best principles and practices in retrieving, recovering, and preserving electronic evidence
    • Utilize leading forensic tools such as Cellebrite, XRY, Oxygen, MPE+, BlackLight, and Axiom
    • Utilize experience and knowledge of a wide variety of advanced digital technologies and theories to conduct analysis of submitted evidence
    • Collaborate with other forensic analysts, law enforcement officers, and legal experts to identify and recommend methods and procedures for recovery, preservation, and presentation of electronic evidence
    • Prepare clear and comprehensive notes and reports of findings that comply with CIF guidelines; testify to findings in judicial proceedings
    • Review requests for forensic support and determine type of examination needed



    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent and eight to ten years of related experience. (A minimum of twenty (20) years professional, specialized experience in a related field is required without a Bachelor’s degree. 
    • At least four CIF approved forensic certifications, such as such as Cellebrite Certified Physical Analyst (CCPA), Cellebrite Certified Mobile Examiner (CCME), XRY (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced), Oxygen Forensic User Certification, Certified BlackLight Examiner (CBE), CFCE, CDFE, ENCE, ACE,
    • Ability to work independently as well as provide technical direction and guidance to lower-level professional/technical contract personnel
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships
    • Skill and ability in managing multiple concurrent activities of varying complexity, including changing priorities and short turn-around times
    • Strong ability to plan and remain organized
    • Experience drafting and editing US government reports and documents
    • Possess strong multi-tasking skills with the ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment
    • Ability to problem-solve, use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations
    • Excellent interpersonal skills working and coordinating with individuals at all levels in and outside the organization and the general public, with the ability to deal tactfully, courteously, and professionally with customers and peers
    • Ability to work independently on projects and issues within overall policy guidelines
    • Superior critical and creative thinking and analytical skills
