This position is located in the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, Directorate of Domestic Operations, Office of Investigations and Counterintelligence, Computer Investigations and Forensics Division (CIF). CIF provides specialized support to investigative offices within the Bureau of Diplomatic Security and the Department of State. This support consists of the collection, preservation, and analysis of digital evidence to include computers, mobile devices, as well as audio and video recordings.


  • Assist in forensic examinations of digital media from a variety of sources with the goal of developing forensically sound evidence·
  • Apply best principles and practices in retrieving, recovering, and preserving digital evidence·
  • Utilize leading forensic tools such as EnCase and FTK·
  • Utilize experience and knowledge of a wide variety of advanced digital technologies and theories to conduct analysis of submitted evidence·
  • Collaborate with other forensic analysts, law enforcement officers, and legal experts to identify and recommend methods and procedures for recovery, preservation, and presentation of digital evidence·
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive notes and reports of findings that comply with CIF guidelines; testify to findings in judicial proceedings·
  • Review requests for forensic support and determine type of examination needed


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of three (3) years professional experience in a related field
  • At least one CIF approved forensic certification, such as CFCE, EnCE, ACE, and CDFE
  • Experience developing information from cases/investigations
  • Must have ACTIVE Secret Clearance.

  • Ability to provide advice, guidance, and consultation with regard to the interpretation and application of analysis
  • Experience drafting US government reports and documents
  • Ability to clearly and consistently organize, manage, and present complex information
  • Ability to work independently on projects and issues within overall policy guidelines
